Spirit in the Sky

Back of the assemblage.
This was an assemblage I made for the Winter Art Show/Sale at Gallery 223, Lake Geneva, WI.

I brought it in on Monday, November 18th, and it sold within 3 hours!

It is meant to sit on a table or shelf, which is the reason for the back design on it, it stabilizes more so it won't tip over.

Icon Workshop - The Holy Face of Christ

Christ Episcopal Church, Delavan, WI hosted a wonderful day of learning about Icons and a beginners course in creating one. Christ Church is celebrating their 175 anniversary, and so the Holy Face of Christ seemed to fit. The workshop led by Alice Pollock, gave us just a taste of what creating an icon is about.

Most icons take weeks or months to finish, we were blessed by Alice's expertise and interesting explanations into what creating an icon is all about. HIGHLY recommend doing this, and I am not at all a painter, but loved this workshop!

The Least of These...

My latest assemblage reflects the atrocities happening at the southern borders of the USA. People being put into cages, children separated from their parents, and more! "...the country is embroiled in a furious debate over the conditions of U.S. immigration detention facilities, as violence and poverty in Central America sends many refugees and migrants northward." USA Today, July 17, 2019

This assemblage is based on Matthew 25:40, where Jesus said, "..whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
Also remembering part of what is written on the base of the Statue of Liberty, "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me..."

I recently read a quote from an art show by Lauren Bon; "Artists Need to Create on the Same Scale That Society Has the Capacity to Destroy".
This assemblage is a sad reflection on what our society is doing now. How does this make America great? What is our response to the horrible things going on in our country?

More Camp Art

We had some really great, creative kids for the arts and crafts part of camping week.  We had a project that many worked on for two days.  They all turned out great!
Creations displayed in the chapel... RED, BROWN, YELLOW, BLACK & WHITE … & MORE! ~ Camp Art - June, 2019 ~

“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free,
nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28
Book of Common Prayer - The Catechism, pg. 846.  “What does this mean about human life?”  “...all people are worthy of respect and honor, because all are created in the image of God, and all can respond to the love of God.”
Jesus loves the little children, All the children of the world.
Red, brown, yellow, black and white,
They are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Other art projects were paintings, crosses, decorating journals and more!

Camp Art Fun

I was blessed to again do "arts and crafts" for a week for the Fond du Lac Diocese summer camp at Camp Lakota in Wautoma, WI.  We had a theme one of the days highlighting when Jesus called His first disciples, who were fishermen.  He told them, "Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men and women!"  So we had some fish forms for the kids (2nd - 5th grade) to paint and decorate.  The finished fish were part of the altar display, which featured a prayer net (where each person tied on a prayer), and each received a bracelet made of fish spinners and a small wood cross to wear to remind them that they too are called to follow Jesus and be fishers of people too.
